A photomask is a transparent plate with opaque sections that allow light to shine through in a certain pattern. Photomasks are extensively employed in photolithography to create a pattern on a thin wafer of material (typically silicon) for the fabrication of integrated circuits. A mask set is formed by the employment of several masks, each of which reproduces a layer of the completed design.
