A mixed bed DI system processed when specific cation and anion exchange resins are employed to remove dissolved (dissociated) ions. They take up the ions that have dissolved in the water and replace them with an equivalent number of other ions with the same charge. Following regeneration, the two resins are equally mixed, and as a consequence, the water is continually ‘polished’ as it goes down the resin bed. The end result is extremely high-quality water. The disadvantage of this type of DI plant is that it might be difficult to operate since efficient resin separation during regeneration is critical.
